Teen recovered from Buck Creek in Clark County identified

The teenager who was recovered from Buck Creek State Park late Tuesday night has been identified.

Nathaniel Cain, 18, of Springfield, was found around 10 p.m., according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Cain reportedly went under the water while swimming with friends and did not resurface, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday evening.

A frantic search for Cain ensued after people formed a human chain to find him.

First responders and a boat from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources used sonar in an attempt to find Cain.

Officials also called in an underwater rescue and recovery team to help locate him.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident.

The Springfield News-Sun has reached out to the ODNR for more information, but has not heard back as of Wednesday afternoon.
