About 200 SuperAmerica convenience stores will be rebranded to become Speedway locations, Marathon said today.

Marathon is rebranding hundreds of SuperAmerica-branded retail stores into its Speedway brand, following Marathon’s acquisition of rival Andeavor.

Marathon said in a news release that it has already started converting SuperAmerica retail stores to the Speedway brand. It did not say how long the conversion is expected to take. The conversion will include about 200 SuperAmerica stores, all of which were company-owned and operated, according to information from Marathon.

SuperAmerica’s website said that company has roughly 2,000 employees.

The News-Sun reported earlier this month that Marathon had finalized the $23.3 billion acquisition of Andeavor, a refining firm headquartered in Texas. Marathon is the parent company of Enon-based Speedway, which now operates about 3,900 convenience stores across the U.S., according to information from the company. Speedway has about 1,350 employees in Clark County.

Springfield operated about 2,800 stores before its acquisition of Andeavor.

The transition will mean SuperAmerica stores will be rebranded with Speedway logos both inside and outside the locations. The stores will also be upgraded with new credit card chip readers and other security upgrades.

“While the signage may be changing, customers will continue to be greeted by the same friendly, helpful store associates that they have come to know and appreciate,” Marathon said in a press release Friday. “The most significant change will be the introduction of Speedy Rewards, Speedway’s industry-leading loyalty program.”

Customers currently enrolled in SuperAmerica’s MY SA Rewards will be able to transfer their existing points to a new Speedy Rewards card. SuperAmerica gift cards will no longer be accepted as a method of payment at converted Speedway locations.
