Springfield worker injured by fallen crane

A man injured in an industrial accident in Clark County is being treated for his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.

Medic crews were dispatched shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday to MEVA Formwork Systems, 2000 Airpark Drive, on a report that an indoor crane had fallen on a worker and trapped him.

The victim was Christopher Bostick, 31, of Springfield, according to a Clark County Sheriff’s Office report. He was rescued from beneath the machinery and taken by medics to the hospital, said Larry Ridenour, assistant chief at the Husted Fire and EMS Department.

Bostick suffered a broken ankle and fractured shoulder and was in surgery for his injuries Wednesday, family members said. He has worked at MEVA for five years, they added.

He was listed in fair condition in Miami Valley Hospital on Wednesday night.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration — the federal agency that oversees the enforcement of safety and health legislation — has dispatched a compliance officer to the Springfield business to investigate the injury and the events leading up to the accident, said Bill Wilkerson, OSHA area director based in Cincinnati.

A report on the incident will likely be filed within a few weeks, he said.

Calls to the Springfield company weren’t returned Wednesday.

MEVA is an international provider of formwork using concrete and other materials founded in 1970, according to the company’s website.
