The production is part of the, “STEM on the Stage,” summer program sponsored by the Springfield City School District.

“When students are not in rehearsals they are learning about different STEM activities through how they relate to the stage,” said Amy Stacy, the connected learning coordinator for Springfield City School District.
The production is being put on as a part of a partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theatre from Montana. Every year the theatre group travels to all 50 states, works within 1,200 communities and teaches roughly 65,000 children.
The performances will take place at 3 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m., Friday at the John Legend Theater, located at 731 Orchard Pl. in Springfield.

Stacy said students have learned everything from how to design props, to directing skits and the engineering of the stage.
“So the kids have had an opportunity to see what type of career fields are available within theater outside of the stage,” Stacy said.
Nolan Evans, who will play Aladdin, said the week has taught him a lot.
“I got to learn because some acting I wasn’t very good at,” Evans said. “And we got to make homemade ice cream.”
