Springfield receives $1.8 million federal grant for transportation aid

The City of Springfield has been awarded a $1.8 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration.

The grant award is part of the Coronaviurs Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act approved by Congress signed by President Trump in March.

The grant designed to be used to aid the city in planning, paratransit services and maintenance, as well as wages and other operating expenses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release from the FTA.

It is part of a larger program by the FTA that is allocating a total of $25 billion in grant funding. The goal is to ensure that the nation’s public transportation systems can continue to provide services amid the ongoing pandemic, according to the news release.
