Springfield police responded to the death of a baby and are investigating.

A police report says police were called to a home on the 1900 block of Kenton Street at around 6 p.m. Saturday evening for a report of a 22-month-old that had died.

“On (Jan. 12) at approximately (6:05 p.m.), , the reporting person, found the child victim in his crib, unresponsive,” the police report says. “This death is under investigation.”

The report says the baby died between Jan. 11 at 3:30 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 6:05 p.m. It is unclear right now why police don’t know exactly when the baby died or why there is a full day between when the baby could have died and when police were called.

Springfield police, when contacted by the Springfield News-Sun, declined to comment saying the case is under investigation. It is unclear at this time what caused the baby’s death.

The baby is described in the police report as a 35-pound male with brown hair and blue eyes. The age is listed as 1 year, 10 months. The Springfield News-Sun will update the story when more details become available.

The report is listed as a dead-on-arrival, unspecified death case.
