Springfield’s new ‘gentleman’s club’ opens: Guests greeted by velvet ropes and waitresses in lingerie

Jazzy G’s Gentleman’s Club opened for the first time in downtown Springfield on Thursday night.

Red velvet ropes and women in black lingerie outfits greeted guests at the door of the club that’s been highly contested leading up to its opening.

FIRST REPORT: City warns Springfield business about opening ‘gentleman’s club’

Jazzy G’s shares a location with Voodoo Moon House of Blues and Brews on North Fountain Avenue. City of Springfield leaders warned Voodoo Moon’s owner, Renea Turner, that if she went through with the opening, she could be in violation of zoning regulations for her business based on information about the club in a Facebook post.

Opening an “adult business” would require a rezoning of the current property — which the city said it would not support.

“It just doesn’t fit in here,” said Laura Boyer, of South Charleston. She and her 7-year-old daughter, Avery, were on their way home from Avery’s summer musical practice at 8 p.m. when the club opened its doors.

They crossed North Fountain Avenue before getting to the corner, where the club is located.

She said she’d like to see something more family-oriented fill the space.

Two uniformed Springfield police officers and one undercover officer did a walk through of the club around 10 p.m.

Both Turner and Ardell Williams, who is in charge of networking at the club, were present during the opening night. Turner and Williams previously said the club will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
