Springfield food truck competition: What to try

Food trucks from all over the United States are competing for a chance to win cash and prizes this weekend.

The sixth annual Springfield Rotary Gourmet Food Truck Competition, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Veteran’s Park Amphitheater, 250 Cliff Park Rd. will feature a total of 35 food trucks.

Previous winners will be back including Urban Vistro, 2018 grand prize winner, and fellow champions Tortilla Street Food, Smokin’ Bee-Bee-Q and Harvest Mobile Cuisine.

A fan favorite, Marty’s Waffles, will travel from Alexandria, Kentucky to compete. Their specialty is Belgian sugar waffles. The most popular waffle is the sea-salt and caramel waffle with homemade bourbon whipped cream.

Five food trucks you should try: 

Urban Vistro: An upscale food truck with a chef-driven menu. Previous menus included Tuna Tataki, tacos, steak, or specialized grilled cheese.

Tortilla Street Food: This food truck takes authentic Mexican food to a different level. Fans can build their own entrees as a burrito, bowl, taco, quesadilla, nachos, or torta. Signature tortillas include cheese jalapeno, chipotle, or garlic.

Smokin' Bee-Bee-Q: Not an ordinary BBQ food truck. Fans should try their smoked shrimp & grits, hand ground brisket burgers, kobe beef brisket & mac, or brisket tacos with smoked pineapple teriyaki.

Harvest Mobile Cuisine: This food truck utilizes locally grown and produced products. Fans should try their crispy sprouts, harvest burger, or harvest fries. The fries are seasoned with fresh herbs and served with sriracha ketchup.

Marty's Waffles: Serving Belgian sugar waffles with an array of sweet and savory toppings. Specialty waffles include bananas foster, strawberry margarita, or smores.
