The Springfield office of the American Red Cross will be moving from the agency’s current building at 1830 N. Limestone St. to the Springfield Masonic Community by the end of spring.

Lynne Gump, Executive for the Northern Miami Valley Ohio Chapter of the Red Cross, said the move is in part due to the Red Cross’s ability to take advantage of technology and increased program delivery with less ‘brick and mortar’ locations.

“There will be no breach of Red Cross service for residents of Clark County,” Gump said in a press release. “Moving from the Limestone Street location to 5 Masonic Dr. in Springfield, allows us to focus on the organization’s core mission while continuing to make the best use of donor dollars.”

There has been a partnership between the NMVO Chapter and the Springfield Masonic Community, as the community has hosted blood drives and trains its staff in Red Cross First Aid and CPR, according to the Red Cross.

The NMVO Chapter serves Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Miami and Shelby counties.

Tony Berardi, President of the Springfield Masonic Community, said the community is thrilled about the partnership.

“We are very excited at Springfield Masonic Community to partner with the Red Cross,” Berardi said. “We are passionate about supporting our surrounding community and this partnership is just one more way of doing so.”

The Springfield Masonic Community is a retirement community located on 250 acres in Springfield.

Moving forward, the Springfield Masonic Community will host all future Red Cross Safety and Preparedness Classes, as well as have its employees participate in the Red Cross Sound the Alarm event, which is a home fire preparedness and smoke alarm installation program, according to the release.

There will be a separate side entrance for the Red Cross office at Springfield Masonic Community, which can be accessed by following Masonic Drive to the Bancroft Manor building.

Visitors will be asked to park in the Community Center parking lot located directly across from the Bancroft Manor building.

The phone number, 937-399-3872, for the Springfield Red Cross office will remain the same.

The Limestone building will be put up for sale, according to the Red Cross.

The Red Cross has been consolidating operations for the last several years.

In May 2015, the Red Cross announced it would close offices in Urbana and West Liberty, saying that less money spent on buildings would allow for more services to those in need in those areas.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters, supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood, teaches skills that save lives, provides international humanitarian aid and supports military members their families, according to their website.

The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization.
