Monies seized by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office will be used to benefit the community.

Sheriff Deb Burchett distributed $19,475 in Community Trust Fund grant awards to seven nonprofit organizations, according to a Friday afternoon release from the sheriff’s office.

Ohio law allows assets to be seized when they are used in the commission of a crime or are the proceeds of a crime. They can only be used by law enforcement agencies after a suspect is convicted and a judge declares the assets forfeit.

Burchett has chosen to use the funds to support community drug and alcohol prevention and education programs that serve Clark County. Those receiving funds are:

  • CitiLookout Trauma Recovery Center, $1,000
  • Clark County Substance Prevention, Treatment & Support Coalition (McKinley Hall), $4,475
  • HOPE/Rock of Hope, $3,000
  • Oesterlen Services for Youth Inc., $3,000
  • Recovery X, $1,000
  • Rocking Horse Center, $2,000
  • Springfield Peace Center, $5,000

A review panel scored each application and each organization that was awarded grant money will be required to submit reports to show how the funds were used, the release stated.
