School notes

Kiara Rayles, 11, of New Carlisle won a $1,000 scholarship from the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program.

The New Carlisle Elementary student received the award for the dedication and action she took to help save her school from budget cuts. In spring 2011, she made more than 700 bracelets and sold them at various sporting events and in her front yard. She raised more than $350 for the district.

Currently, she has joined in a Mathathon and is continuing to raise money to fight against childhood cancer and other serious diseases.

Jessica Frasure of Bellefontaine graduated with a bachelor’s degree in applied economics and management and a bachelor’s in animal science from Cornell University.

Aaron Reep of Springfield was named with Highest Honors to the spring semester dean’s list at Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn. Reep graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern with a bachelor’s in social studies education.

Amber Arnold of London graduated with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood PreK-3.

Anthony Rice of Urbana graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history.

Eric Smith of Springfield graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Dale Vinson of Xenia graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences.

Michelle Spradlin of Springfield graduated with an associate’s degree in radiologic tech.

Virginia Csillag from West Liberty, has been named to the spring 2012 dean’s list at St. Bonaventure University. Csillag is majoring in marketing.

Rep. Steve Austria (R-Beavercreek) announced winners for April and May 2012 for the Congressional Student of the Month Award. High School and Middle School students from across the 7th Congressional District are nominated for this honor by their schools based on their exemplary scholarship, leadership or citizenship. The Student of the Month Award is presented to students during the months school is in session. Students represent schools around the district and were selected for the Student of the Month Award by their respective school officials.
