Rocking Horse Community Health Center, 651 S. Limestone St., closed early on Friday to celebrate their 20th anniversary with the community.

Their birthday bash was during National Community Health Center Week and featured carnival games, a bounce house, a DJ, dancing, cotton candy, popcorn, free shaved ice from Snow Cove, and many local food trucks.

In Springfield, cotton candy flew through the air as the Rocking Horse staff danced with children to the Cha Cha Slide.

Second-hand clothing was also available for free to help ease the stress of buying children back to school clothes.

“We’re responding to the needs of the community,” said Stacy Lee, Director of Operations at Rocking Horse Community Health Center.

Lee has worked at Rocking Horse for 18 years and has seen the center grow with the community.

“We have grown so much over the last 20 years.” Lee said.

Rocking Horse is designed to provide help, healing and hope to the community.

“Rocking Horse offers a full range of medical services as well as behavioral health, dental and chiropractic services,” Lee said. “We serve anyone in the community regardless of their ability to pay and we help out anyone who needs assistance.”

The health center works with the community to provide what the community wants and needs.

Over the last five years, Rocking Horse has seen an increase in referrals for children and young adults needing help with mental health issues.

Rocking Horse has recently added five pediatric exam rooms, dental care, increased addiction care, and a pharmacy program.

In March, Maureen Corcoran, Director of Ohio Medicaid, said, “This community should be so proud of what you’re doing for all of the citizens who live here.”

Between four locations, the center serves over 13,500 patients.

National Community Health Center Week is celebrated in every state across the nation.

According to www.healthcenterweek.org, 1,800 celebratory events occurred this week with hundreds of state and local officials attending.
