Another major road construction project has been given the go-ahead by the Clark County Commission.

The project involves a variety of road improvements near Indian Valley Intermediate School including adding left turn lanes on Enon-Xenia Rd.

The projects complete description reads, “install left turn lanes, replace deteriorating storm sewer system from Mud Run to Vista Drive, rehabilitate the bridge over Mud Run, construct a shared use path from Hunter Drive to Green Vista Drive and resurfacing the roadway from the bridge to Dayton-Springfield Road.”

The proposed project comes in response to Greenon Local School District’s plan to build a new school.

Johnathan Burr, Clark County Engineer, said that much like the roundabout that will be constructed due to the building of a new Shawnee Elementary School, this construction project was proposed in anticipation of construction of a new Greenon school.

“With the addition of the school being relocated we have been working with the school to come up with a plan,” Burr said. “This is something that has been in the works, we have just been working out the details.”

Brad Silvus, Superintendent of Greenon Local School District, said that safety is the districts main priority.

“We are committed to the safety of our students and our community,” Silvus said. “We appreciate the commissioners’ shared commitment to safety around the site of our new school. We look forward to working with them on this project.”

Burr said that now that the commission has approved the project, the city can begin looking for quotes on how much the project will cost, how long it will take to complete and when construction can begin.

Because of all of that, Burr said it’s hard to say when construction will start.

The project will be federally funded through the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Clark County Transportation Coordinating Committee up to $1.98 million.

The new Greenon school building will be constructed on the current site of the Indian Valley Intermediate School, located at 510 S Xenia Dr. Indian Valley will remain open during construction but will close once the new school opens, as will Enon Primary and Greenon High School. The new school will be for all students in the district.

Voters approved a $36 million bond issue to build a new pre-K through 12th-grade school by 500 votes in May of 2017.
