The Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Mad River Township EMS and the Ohio State Highway Patrol all responded to the two-vehicle crash that was reported around 11 p.m. on Interstate 70 near Interstate 675, according to OSHP.

1 seriously injured, in fair condition after Clark County crash

Nicholas Wakeman, 23, of Indianapolis, fell asleep behind the wheel and sideswiped a pickup truck, OSHP stated. He then struck a concrete median barrier, went off the highway and into some trees.

Wakeman was not injured. He was cited for failure to control.

His passenger, Jeffery Wacaster, 28, also of Indianapolis, suffered broken bones in the crash and was taken to the hospital by CareFlight, OSHP stated. He remains in stable condition as of Wednesday morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed for nearly an hour while the helicopter was on scene.
