While parks and trails remain open, the National Trail Parks and Recreation District has closed playgrounds in Springfield as a result of the stay-at-home order that went into effect this week.

The NTPRD has also canceled all programs, activities and building rentals through April 6 while postponing athletic leagues for adults and youths.

Those are now set to begin the week after April 6.

The NTPRD is the result of a merging of the City of Springfield Parks and Recreation Department and the Clark County Recreation Department into one agency.

According to the organization’s website, it manages over 1,100 acres of parks and facilities and nearly 30 miles of multi-use trails and provides a variety of programs for residents of Clark County.

The state issued a stay-at-home order Sunday as an effort to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has encouraged physical activity but cited playgrounds as an area of concern in terms of spreading the disease.
