A new restaurant is opening two locations in Springfield, while another East Main Street staple will get a face lift.

A Krispy Krunchy Chicken restaurant will open in the former Long John Silver’s/A&W at 1929 E. Main St., which closed earlier this year.

The Cajun, fried chicken restaurant recently opened another location inside Doc’s Drive Thru, 908 W. North St., a few weeks ago.

“Springfield is going to be a great opportunity,” said Sales Representative Donna Pellman, who is in charge of the Cincinnati region.

The new restaurant on East Main Street will open in early September, Pellman said. The menu at Krispy Krunchy Chicken includes chicken, wings, seafood and breakfast foods.

The Alexandria, La.-based company has about 2,600 locations in 39 states, including about 25 in Ohio, many of which are located inside gas stations. There are about five locations in the Dayton area.

“Our model is basically set for convenience stores, but we do have some free-standing locations,” Pellman said.

The company doesn’t charge franchising fees, but rather owners sign a letter of understanding agreeing to use their products.

Meanwhile, the Taco Bell restaurant at 1717 E. Main St. is getting a $50,000 renovation, including a new facade, dining room and restrooms, according to Springfield building permit records.

The store was built in 2002 after it moved from its former location at 2050 E. Main St., which was built in 1968 – the first franchise east of the Mississippi River.
