A deli could be on its way to downtown Springfield, although its owners said few details are available because the project is in its early stages.

A liquor license application filed with the state showed a company called Le Torte Dolci LLC is asking for a permit for a business at 40 N. Fountain Ave. called Salato Deli.

Le Torte Dolci is a bakery that opened in May at 36B. N Fountain Ave in Springfield. Its owners confirmed plans to open a deli downtown, but declined to provide further details Friday because some details of the new business are still being worked out.

The building at that address is owned by Wellington Square LLC, the real estate arm of the Turner Foundation. While he also declined to provide further details, the new business will offer something new for area residents when it opens, said Daren Cotter, chief financial officer for the Turner Foundation.

“It’s just another amenity downtown was missing,” Cotter said.
