Officials from Mercy Health — Springfield will break ground today on a $14 million project that will start with the construction of a freestanding emergency department on the border of Enon and Fairborn.

A groundbreaking ceremony is set for 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at 1840 Dayton-Springfield Road in Fairborn. Guests will park across the street and a shuttle will be available to the work site.

Officials from Mercy Health will announce the name of the new facility at the event and guests will have the chance to sign their names to a beam that will be used in the construction project.

The initial phase of the $14 million project will include construction of an 11,000-square foot emergency department with 10 exam rooms, lab and imaging center, including CT and MRI scanning capability as well as radiology and ultrasound services, according to information from Mercy.

The facility will be open 24-hours daily and there will be a helipad for patients needing immediate transfer to an appropriate facility after stabilization.

The project will be built on a 12-acre site at exit 24 along I-675, according to information from the company. The new emergency department will be the centerpiece, but Mercy Health could add further services at the medical campus site in the future, depending on patients' needs, company officials previously told the News-Sun.

Mercy Health also plans to offer a chest pain center to evaluate cardiac care needs at the site, as well as a fast track sports medicine program for sports-related injuries. Other clinical services such as primary care, cardiology and specialty services will be available at Mercy Health’s medical office building in Enon, located at 240 Enon Ave., according to information from the company.
