“We had the board look at what the community priorities and what resources we had available,” Beers said. “(We) made a decision on what were the highest priorities and what we could afford to have done.”
Upgrades to the library have cost about $300,000, according to Beers.
The library began updates to the exterior in October 2018. Since then, the library has replaced the sidewalks around the building, installed an awning over the front door, and repaired the library’s emergency door.

“The whole focus, push, and idea (of the updates) is that it makes it better when you get here, but also makes it easier to get to and get into the library,” Beers said.
By the time exterior upgrades are completed, the front doors will be automatic and new LED signs will be installed outside.
Plans are also in place to install healthy, energy efficient lights, replace the carpeting, and paint the walls.

The library is hoping to finish the upgrades by June, but there are “no guarantees,” Beers said. “It really depends because we are trying to do this while the library is open.”
The library is asking residents to lend a hand if they are available. The Mechanicsburg Public Library is located at 60 S. Main St. For more information, please call the library at 937-834-2004.
