Woman, children shot at in car connected to man shot in Springfield, police say

Two shootings that happened Wednesday night in Springfield are related, according to Springfield police.

A man was shot multiple times as he walked to the back yard of a house in the 800 block of Wiley Avenue before 8 p.m.. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight, said Springfield police Sgt. Nick Holt.

He was believed to be in serious condition.

Around the same time, police responded to Springfield Regional Medical Center where a woman stated she had been shot at while in her car with two children and an unknown male.

The female victim told police an unknown male was driving her car while she sat in the backseat with her two children. She said an black SUV started following their vehicle and began shooting.

The woman stated she grabbed both her children and shielded them from the gunfire. She then rolled out of the car and grabbed her kids.

The woman sustained a possible gunshot wound to her right side. The children were not injured.
