Local musician injured, wife killed in crash

SPRINGFIELD — Whether he sold them their first guitar, or wowed them with his own playing, Larry Music is “loved by many people,” said Rick Dustin, the owner of Kincaid’s is Music.

So it came as a shock to many — “Unbelievable,” Dustin said — to learn that the well-known local musician was injured, and his wife killed, in a motorcycle crash Saturday, May 15, during a charity ride with the Plains Drifters Motorcycle Club.

Music, 55, a longtime manager at the First Street music store, was treated at Springfield Regional Medical Center after he apparently lost control of a 2002 Harley-Davidson on Selma Pike just north of U.S. 42.

His wife and passenger, 53-year-old Lisa Music, later died Sunday evening at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, according to the Springfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The couple was southbound on Selma about 2 p.m. Saturday when their bike went off the right side of the road, causing it to roll over, according to the OSP. Neither was wearing a helmet.

“It’s just a terrible thing,” said Perry Hawkins, president of the Plains Drifters.

Larry Music later told Hawkins that his motorcycle wouldn’t turn.

Funeral arrangements for Lisa Music are pending. The Drifters have set up a Lisa Music Memorial Fund at Huntington National Bank.
