Local manufacturer develops scholarship at Clark State

The Clark State Foundation is working with a long-time Springfield manufacturer and will begin offering a new scholarship annually to two students majoring in manufacturing technologies at the community college.

The Sweet Manufacturing Company will provide funding for the scholarships, which will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and other course-related materials. Students who receive the scholarships must be a resident of Clark County and major in a manufacturing-related field. Priority will be based on financial need, and students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The company will also offer internship opportunities to students who receive the scholarship.

“We wanted to do this to help students who have an interest in manufacturing technologies and also to be a solution to the current workforce issues being addressed in this community and communities nationwide,” said Alicia Sweet Hupp, the company’s president and CEO in a news release. “This is one thing we can do to provide students some of the skill sets that are needed in the manufacturing sector.”

Clark State will recognize the family by naming the college’s advanced manufacturing laboratory as the Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center.

A dedication ceremony for the Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center located in Shull Hall at Clark State’s Springfield campus on Leffel Lane will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6. A luncheon will follow.
