SPRINGFIELD — Ask Cameron Blair his lucky number and he’ll say, “Nine.”

It’s probably best that he thinks the number is beneficial for him because today, Sept. 9, that particular digit is all around him.

It is Cameron’s ninth birthday — 9/09/09.

The date is pretty special, considering that it will be almost 100 years until another single digit year and corresponding birthday comes along for another lucky kid.

Cameron’s mother, Rhonda Blair, said she didn’t think much of the unique birthday until his aunt, Heidi Swope, pointed it out.

“It just dawned on me,” after the excitement that surrounded July 7, 2007, birthdays, Swope recalled.

The day wouldn’t have been complete for Cameron, a fourth grader at Kenwood Elementary School, without his very own number 9 cake from Schuler’s Bakery on Mitchell Boulevard, where his mother works.

Cameron’s dad, Rick Blair, works for the post office and Cameron wants to work there, too, when he grows up.

Cameron also hopes to get a new bike and has made his pleas for a new Playstation, his mother said.

But the best thing about being nine?

“It’s a year closer to 10,” Cameron said. “Then I get to ride my dirt bike.”
