No other technology is more representative of the Industrial Revolution than the railroad industry, which dramatically changed Springfield.

By 1846, the Little Miami Railroad Line and the Lake Erie Railroad had both arrived in Springfield, thanks to the hard work of locals and newly settled immigrants who were pulled away from working on the National Road, enticed by better wages.

The advent of the railroad sped up the population growth and in the space of 10 years, from 1840-1850, Springfield doubled its population.
