A vacant Springfield business that caught on fire Sunday afternoon is considered a “total loss,” according to the Springfield Township Fire Chief.

Springfield Township Fire Chief Dave Nangle said when the department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire at the old Complete Fire Sprinkler and Safety building in the 2300 block of Dayton Road, the building was engulfed.

As a result of the fire, crews were forced to close Dayton Road while crews worked to extinguish the fire, Nangle said.

Fire Crews from Hustead and Pitchin Village Fire Departments brought in water assistance because the building was located in a non-hydrant area. Parts of the building collapsed in on itself as it burned, fire crews said.

“The business was vacant,” Nangle said. “There was still electric service to the business.”

Nangle said the property owner told fire crews a demolition was in the process, but they did not have a date set.

Nangle said the cause of the fire is still “undetermined,” but the blaze remains under investigation. However, fire crews on the scene said the fire was internal.

“We’re going to have an investigator come back out and go through it, take a look at it and see what they can find,” Nangle said. “There was nothing suspicious that we determined at the scene.”
