“I’ve enjoyed my time at Enon,” Wilcox said. “It’s kind of like I came to this city on a date and I fell in love. I got to have the downtown celebrations, pizza festival, car shows, parades that I never got to do because I came from a rural environment. I got to do a lot of things that I could have only dreamed of in this profession.”
The open house will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Enon Government Center. To attend, a person only has to show up.
Wilcox said he is most proud of how the mayor, council, police department and the community have worked together to make Enon a better place to live in the last decade. Wilcox helped establish Enon’s “coffee with a cop” events where residents are allowed to sit down with police officers in the community and discuss ongoing issues they are seeing.
Wilcox also was a major part of the police station’s Christmas celebration that saw officers collect purchase gifts for underprivileged youths in the community.
Wilcox also served as the village’s administrator for a short time.
He said making sure the community knew that the police department is there to help was a top priority for him.
“It’s been a great time in Enon,” he said. “I really enjoyed my time serving the public.
Wilcox told the Springfield News-Sun that he decided to retire now because the years have caught up to him, but that he has enjoyed the first month off the job.
To replace Wilcox, Enon promoted Mike Holler from within the department. He is now the acting police chief.
