The man who crashed into the Champaign County Library on Wednesday night was arrested for OVI, according to a police official.

Stanley Brann, 58, of Urbana, was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol and issued a traffic citation for failure to control a motor vehicle, said Police Chief Matt Lingrell. He was released to a family member and his court date is set for 9 a.m. on Monday in the Champaign County Municipal Court.

Urbana Police and Fire Divisions responded around 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday to the library, 1060 Scioto St., on a report of a truck crashing into the building, said Lingrell.

When crews arrived, they found Brann had crashed his 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck into and through the meeting room window located on the front of the building.

The investigation showed that Brann was traveling east on Scioto Street when his truck went off the road, crossed oncoming traffic near the Rock’n Robin Diner parking lot and continued through the Chinese Buffet restaurant parking lot where he went airborne after crashing into a hill embankment, Lingrell said. He then continued through the library parking lot and crashed through the window.

Brann was checked out on scene by medics and he was not injured, Lingrell said. No other injuries were reported.
