The company, based in Tennessee, has more than 10,000 stores nationwide.
“In regards to the store in North Lewisburg, Ohio, we are excited about the possibility of building a new store in your community,” she said. “However, we are in our due diligence phase, so the project isn’t finalized and confirmed.”
The store recently received zoning approval in the village, including a variance for parking that would allow the company to provide about 30 parking spaces if the facility is built, said Travis Munn, engineering project coordinator for Hurley and Stewart, an engineering firm based in Kalamazoo, Mich. If finalized, the store would likely be built at Ohio 245 near Coates Drive, Munn said.
If approved, the business could provide an economic boost to the village, said Andy Yoder, village administrator.
“It sounds really promising,” Yoder said.
The next step, Munn said, will be to provide the village with an engineering site plan for review. The company will also likely apply for required building permits.
A typical Dollar General store is 7,200 square feet and employs six to 10 people, Ghassemi said. Although she was not able to provide some details until a final agreement is signed, she said the company typically looks for locations in which they can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice.
“We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and more into consideration,” Ghassemi said. “Our merchandise selection is based on the needs of the households seeking value and convenience in a variety of communities. In fact, 70 percent of our stores serve communities with populations of less than 20,000.”
