A Springfield church and mosque are raising money to help Springfield’s homeless and hungry populations through the 30th Annual Day of Caring 365 Pancake Brunch on Sunday.

Day of Caring 365, a nonprofit organization in Beavercreek, sponsors brunches around the area to raise money for homeless shelters and food banks on the last Sunday of February.

For the fourth consecutive year, there will be two Springfield brunches.

Central Christian Church, 1504 Villa Rd., will host a brunch 8 to 10 a.m. followed by Masjid An-Nur Islamic Community Center, 743 W. Liberty St., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The brunch will feature pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice and coffee.

Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children and seniors. Those who can not afford to pay, will still be able to eat at the brunch, Imam Mustafaa Islam of the Masjid An-Nur Islamic Community Center said.

“The funds that are raised are uniquely kept in the county they are raised in,” Islam said.

There will be 28 brunch locations throughout Clark, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Preble and Warren counties.

Day of Caring 365 provides the food and drinks for the brunch, while the hosts prepare the food and sell tickets.

Julie Prater, the office manager at Central Christian Church said, “We’re just really big supporters of outreach to the community and doing anything and everything we can to help those people who are in need.”

Last year, the Springfield locations raised around $1,500 for the community.

Islam said, “We hope to do that and a little more,” this year.

“Being a part of the community effort to deal with two big problems that we have in our city, and in other cities too, the homeless and the hungry - to be able to help address those two issues, I think is satisfactory,” Islam said.
