The fatal crash happened just before 11 a.m, after a single-vehicle crash on State Route 4 near the intersection of Catawba-Mechanicsburg Road in Champaign County.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, a red 2016 Nissan was being driven northbound by Kayla Davis-Woods of Marysville when the car crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Derek White, a passenger from West Liberty, was pronounced dead on scene. Davis-Woods was transported by CareFlight to an area hospital and her condition was unknown Wednesday afternoon.
The cause of the crash, was not available from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office as of Wednesday afternoon as officials are continuing to investigate.
The first crash of the morning happened in Mad River Twp.
Two people were airborne and one was transported by CarFlight to Miami Valley Hospital after a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in the 5400 block of Springfield-Xenia Road (US 68). The person transported to the hospital suffered injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Springfield Post.
The other two crashes of the day occurred in Springfield.
A two-vehicle crash, involving a red Honda CRV and a four-door silver car with a soft-top, was reported in the 1900 block of S. Limestone St., between Leffel Lane and John Street around 8 a.m.
Two medics and CareFlight responded. CareFlight met the ground ambulance at Springfield Regional Medical Center to transport the crash victim. Emergency crews described the driver’s injuries as serious and life-threatening.

Just two hours later, another two-vehicle crash was reported around 10 a.m. on U.S. 40 at South Bird Road. Three medics responded and reported three people were injured, including a child.
The crash was described as a, “rear-end crash,” according to police on scene. A truck was waiting at the stoplight, when the stoplight changed the truck accelerated and a black car slammed into the back of it, according to police.
Additional information on the crash was unavailable late Wednesday.
