Coronavirus: 5 things Clark, Champaign residents need to know today

Here are five things Clark and Champaign residents need to know about COVID-19, or coronavirus today.

1. Springfield will receive over $1M in federal funds for homelessness or other housing needs. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded over $137 million to Ohio as part of allocations from a massive coronavirus stimulus bill that was signed last week.

2. Clark and Champaign counties are seeing a massive jump in jobless claims. In Ohio, claims went from 187,789 to a record high of 272,117 during the last two weeks of March.

3. A few Clark County restaurants have temporarily closed amid the  pandemic after providing carryout and delivery options to residents.

4. The pandemic is highlighting home internet access problems in rural Clark County. With schools closed, colleges going to distance learning for the rest of spring and many adults telecommuting, some residents are cut off from key services and others are dealing with data caps.

5. Gov. Mike DeWine is extending the stay-at-home order to May 1.
