The Heritage of Flight Festival in New Carlisle has been canceled for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video posted on the event’s Facebook page, Marshall Gorby, a member of the Festival’s board and Springfield News-Sun staff photographer, said organizers held out, “as long as possible.”

“We tried to hold out as long as we possibly can to keep Heritage of Flight going, but at this time, we have decided to cancel it,” Gorby said.

New Carlisle’s Mayor Mike Lowrey said the decision was made due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are heartbroken,” Lowrey said. “With all the other events and organizations that have had to cancel or alter their events, we are going to have to scratch our entire event as well.”

In replacement of the festival, Lowrey said the city is going to work on possibly putting together something online the weekend of what would have been the festival.

“We aren’t exactly sure what yet, because we have never had to do this before, but we want to try to come up with something that will put you in the mindset that the festival is still on that weekend and remember the good times you have had there in the past,” Lowrey said.
