Coronavirus: Clark County reports first probable COVID-19 death

The Clark County Combined Health District announced the county’s first probable COVID-19 death on Thursday afternoon.

The victim is a male in his 30s, according to health district spokeswoman Emma Smales.

Smales said the district was not aware of the man as a probable case or a contact of a confirmed case before his death.

A probable death is identified when the person has not been lab tested for the coronavirus, but they meet one of the following criteria: a death certificate lists the coronavirus as the cause of death or autopsy findings are consistent with pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome without an identifiable cause, the CCCHD said.

Clark County has 29 confirmed cases with nine hospitalizations as of Thursday afternoon, according to Ohio Department of Health data.
