The Board of Clark County Commissioners has been awarded a $56,000 state grant to provide services to the homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement from the commission.

The grant’s funding, which was secured by the Clark County Community and Economic Development department, will be used for shelter operations, including staff support, supplies, motel/hotel vouchers or other housing options used to reduce shelter concentration and create greater physical distance between residents, the statement said.

“We’re excited to be able to award these funds to help one of our most vulnerable populations,” Clark County Director of Development Ethan Harris said. “The money will go to support important disaster relief efforts taking place in our community. We’re thankful for the state providing these funds to our county.”

The commission will allocate the grant to Springfield-based Interfaith Hospitality Network, which serves as the local Homelessness Crisis Response Program Regional Lead Agency, according to the statement.

“Our department will continue to support relief efforts and continue to apply for grants that benefit the residents of Clark County during these very challenging times,” Harris said.
