Clark County treasurer to retire Friday

Clark County’s treasurer will retire on Friday, according to Clark County spokesperson Michael Cooper.

Stephen Metzger was first elected treasurer in 1988 and is currently serving his eighth term. As treasurer, Metzger serves as the investment officer for the county with an average portfolio of $120 million.

Prior to his election as treasurer, Metzger served in Clark County Common Pleas Court and seven years as a certified state examiner with the Auditor of State of Ohio.

He is also a member of the Treasurer’s Association of Ohio Legislative Committee.

Metzger was facing a Democratic challenger, Michelle Harris, in March’s primary election — which was postponed and is continuing now through absenteee allots only until April 28. Harris now faces no challengers in the primary election.
