The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new local phone scam, according to a statement from the office.

In the scam, the caller tells the resident they have missed jury duty and advises them they need to obtain $1,800 in Money Pak cards and call them back with the card numbers in order to not be arrested, the statement said.

A Money Pak card is a loadable gift card that can be purchased with a debit card at stores like CVS, Family Dollar, KMart, Walmart and more.

“Over the past several days, several individuals have contacted the Clark County Sheriff’s Office to advise them of the phone call they received,” the statement said. “The caller advised they were from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and in some cases, using the names of actual employees at the Sheriff’s Office.”

Furthermore, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office will not call you to have a fine paid over the phone or with gift cards.”
