Several school districts in Clark County are showing their appreciation for staff members and the community through their social media accounts.

The superintendent of Clark-Shawnee Local School District said thanks is not a strong enough word to describe how he feels towards staff and community.

“I am here today to say thanks, and that may not be strong enough a word,” Superintendent Brian Kuhn said Tuesday in a video posted to the district’s Facebook page.

“I want to say thanks to our staff who worked hard to prepare for this unexpected distance learning that’s going to be taking place for the next several weeks,” he said.

Kuhn also gives thanks to the food service staff, parents and community members.

“Thanks to our food service staff who’s going to be preparing meals for students on days that we would otherwise had been scheduled to be in school, thanks to our parents for being flexible as we navigate this journey together, and thanks to our community for their constant support of our schools.”

Kuhn hopes people are taking advantage of the time off and still staying connected.

“I hope you’re taking this time to stay connected to friends and family, although it probably looks a little different. You may be using phones and FaceTime and a virtual connection, but it’s really important to stay connected to your family and to each other,” he said.

Kuhn also hosts a nightly live story time on the district’s Facebook page to engage with the community, and said his first one was a great time.

“I think it was really special just having time to read some bedtime stories and stay connected to each other as a school community,” he said.

Lastly, Kuhn said, is that being brave during this time is important.

“It is now more than ever important that we are all still Shawnee Brave,” he said. So, be brave, be well, take care of yourselves and each other, and thank you all again.”

The superintendent of Greenon Local School District also reached out to staff members and the community to say thanks.

“I wanted to reach out to all of our Knight families and community and just say thanks,” Superintendent Brad Silvus said Tuesday in a video posted to the district’s Facebook page.

“It’s been an interesting last five or six days. We appreciate all the flexibility, the understanding, and actually, the support we’ve been receiving,” he said.

Silvus said he appreciates the teachers and staff members for all of their efforts.

“Our teachers have been working really hard. I appreciate all of their efforts with getting distance learning ready,” he said. “Our staff members have been supporting to keep things going such as our lunches and operations in the buildings, so a huge thanks to the Greenon staff for all their time and efforts.”

Silvus also is thankful for all the calls and questions the district has been getting since the closure.

“We’ve had a lot of calls from parents with appreciation, questions, so we appreciate you guys reaching out to us,” he said. “We’ll continue to do that in the upcoming weeks as we learn more as we go through this unprecedented event.”

During this break, Silvus reminded the community to spend quality time with family.

“Don’t forget, spend time at home, time with your family,” he said.

Lastly, Silvus said, is how easy it is for the community to come together in times like this.

“Once again, it’s easy to see how Greenon Knights come together, work together, and we’re going to get through this together,” he said. “Stay strong, Greenon.”

The superintendent of Northeastern Local School District also said he is appreciative of the community.

“It’s been a week of big adjustments and we want to let you know that we appreciate all your support and flexibility,” Superintendent John Kronour said in a post on the district’s Facebook page.

“Keep up the great work, NELSD families.”
