Clark County’s pumpkin carving contest kicks off Friday

The Clark County Park District is hosting a free pumpkin carving contest beginning Friday with pumpkin pick up.

Each participant is invited to pick up one free pumpkin, 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the George Rogers Clark barn, 930 S. Tecumseh Road in Springfield.

Pumpkins are first come, first served with a limited supply of 50 pumpkins. Participants that do not receive a free pumpkin, can still participate by purchasing and carving their own pumpkin.

Residents will have five full days to create a carved masterpiece.

Pumpkin return is 6 to 8 p.m. at the George Rogers Clark barn. A registration sheet with the participant’s name, age, and phone number is required to be in the carving contest.

Last year, was the first year the Clark County Park District hosted the pumpkin carving contest. Clark County Park District’s Administrative Assistant, Nancy Wallace, described the carving contest entries as spooky and funny.

Prizes will be awarded to two age categories, children ages 12 and under and adults.

All pumpkins will be on display along the trails at George Rogers Clark Park during The Night of Historical Haunting, 7 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.

The Night of Historical Haunting allows attendees to tour the haunted Hertzler House, travel through the park on a wagon ride and listen to spooky narratives, learn Ohio’s legends and folklore, and enjoy refreshments in the barn or food from The Painted Pepper food truck. The last house tour will begin at 10:15 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per person. Children ages 6 and under are free.
