The recycling station didn’t go far though — it is now located at 1620 West Main Street, right next door to the district’s main offices.
“It’s about two acres,” said the district’s program manager, Bonnie Martens.
In the former specialty recycling facility on the district office property, customers were forced to drive through a u-turn which was sometimes hard to maneuver especially for trucks with trailers. The new facility has a straight-away from the front to the back.

The specialty recycling facility is used for anything that can’t go into the bins — like tires, paint cans, herbicides, pesticides and electronics.
A customer can bring their specialty recycling to the facility and crews will unload and sort the items. Customers don’t even have to get out of their cars.
The regular recycling drop-off bins have also moved to the new location as well.
Martens said the bins will be open for drop off 24/7, unlike the previous set up where hours for drop off were restricted.
“When there’s more space in the parking lot or ease of access to move a vehicle up — it makes it easy for them to come and drop off their recycles,” she said.
The additional space also allows the district to store items for transport in semi trailers behind the facility, instead of them cluttering up the building.
CLARK COUNTY NEWS: Silfex plant operating in Springfield, more hiring planned
The district had been eyeing the property for some time, but it was out of their price point until 2017 when the county was able to buy the property from the Clark County Land Bank. The new location opened to the public Thursday.
The site was previously the home of All Phase Electric.
The district’s main offices and programming remain at the same location at 1602 West Main Street.
The new specialty recycling facility is open for customers to drive through every Thursday from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. and the first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.
