Two big political leaders are coming to Springfield this week.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D) are coming to the area as guest speakers for annual fundraisers being held by the Clark County Republican and Democratic parties.

Gov. DeWine will be the keynote speaker at the Clark County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner, the primary fundraising event for state and county organizations of the Republican Party across the country.

Maggie Roberts, executive director of the Clark County Republican Party Central Committee said she is excited to have a sitting governor attend Clark County Republican’s Lincoln Day event for the first time.

“It is such an honor,” Roberts said. “It’s huge for our county to have him come and speak. being that he is sitting governor. We are excited to have him.”

Clark County Democratic Party will host its own fundraiser - the Annual Freedom Dinner - featuring Sherrod Brown as keynote speaker.

Charlie Bush, executive committee chair said he hopes the event will increase party unity.

“Bringing everybody together in the same setting will help to establish party unity and moving forward, it will make the Clark County Democratic Party stronger.”

When the Clark County Democratic Party learned that Brown would be attending their event, Bush said the entire party was excited.

“It fell in line with what we’re attempting to do as far as unifying the party and bringing Clark County Democrats together.

The Democratic Party’s Annual Freedom Dinner takes place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Courtyard by Marriott Springfield Downtown, 100 S Fountain Ave, Springfield.

The Republican Party event starts with cocktails and social hour at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. dinner on Friday, April 5 at Simon Kenton Inn, 4690 Urbana Rd., Springfield.
