“It was decided due to the strong desire to have a fair and to give the youth with projects as much opportunity as possible that the board will move forward with planning and executing a 2020 junior fair only,” the group posted on its Facebook page. “It was noted that there is much work to be done and many details to be worked out, but the board is confident it can be done.”

Fair executive director Dean Blair previously told the News-Sun in April the board estimated holding only a junior fair – without revenue-drivers such as rides and entertainment – would cost around $75,000-100,000.
That figure accounts for utilities, judging fees, manure removal and an anticipated increase in sanitation practices.
The Champaign County Fair Board has a meeting scheduled this week at which the fate of that event could be decided.
