Between 5 and 7 p.m., the businesses and organizations will ring a bell to attract people to their displays.
“Their money is their vote,” Ryan Ray, development director of the Springfield Salvation Army said.

The kettle that has the most money at the end of the two hours will be recognized as the “Kettle Wars Champ 2019.”
“It’s maybe the most iconic fundraiser in the U.S., but it is a means to bring help to those that need it most,” Ray said. “When you see a kettle we hope that you see it as hope, compassion, love and a means to get people what they need here in the community.”
The winner will receive a $600 Star Wars themed trophy, two billboards in downtown Springfield with their name and logo on it, and publicity during Holiday in the City.
“We have a lot of quality organizations and businesses participating in this,” Ray said.

Some of those businesses include Young’s Jersey Dairy, Springfield Smiles, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Global Impact STEM Academy and Clark State Community College.
Ray said, “Holiday in the City is such a great event and we want to be a part of that.”
The Salvation Army is hoping Kettle Wars will act as a boost to their kettle campaign because it is half of what it was two years ago, Ray explained.
“Make sure that when you see these displays, you vote for your favorite one,” Ray said.
