Beggar’s Night has been a pressing topic in Clark County this year after Clark County Sheriff Deb Burchett changed the long-standing date from the Saturday before Halloween, to Halloween night.

Many Clark County communities have made the decision to keep Beggar’s Night on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Here is a list of when communities in Clark and Champaign counties will hold Beggar’s Night. The trick-or-treat hours for all communities are from 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 26

  • Bethel Twp. (Park Layne, Medway, Crystal Lakes)

Many communities decided to change the date of Beggar’s Night back to Saturday because of resident’s complaints, the convenience of having Beggar’s Night on the weekend, safety concerns, and the lack of part-time police officers available.

Communities also decided to change the date back in an attempt to stay consist with neighboring communities, but almost 15 other communities surrounding Clark and Champaign counties are planning Beggar’s Night on Halloween.

Dayton, Fairborn, Huber Heights, West Liberty, and Yellow Springs will hold Beggar’s Night on Halloween.

According to a statement posted on the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Facebook, Burchett said she apologizes for moving the date, but knows there will never be a perfect date that fits everyone’s schedule.

“We understand that many people have historically planned their Halloween events following Beggar’s night being held during the weekend. We also have heard from just as many people thanking us and letting us know they appreciate the date being move,” the statement said. “We realize the change can be difficult and apologize for any inconvenience.”
