Springfield saw several restaurants and eating options open and close in 2016.

• Everyday Edibles started in 2012 when owner Shannelle Townsend began catering and delivering meals from her home. The business continued to grow and Townsend chose to open the restaurant in a long-vacant space at 1706 E. Main St. in Springfield in 2016.

• Two restaurants were able to move into existing buildings and give them new life.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken restaurant opened in the former Long John Silver’s/A&W at 1929 E. Main St., which closed earlier in 2016.

The new restaurant on East Main Street opened in early September, with a menu including chicken, wings, seafood and breakfast foods.

• Taco Bell opened its location on 1920 N. Bechtle Ave. The building was the former home of Rudy's Smokehouse. Rudy's still maintains its location on S. Limestone St.

• An Urbana bar and restaurant that’s been closed for more than a year is getting a second life with a new name and menu.

The Wing Bar, 1549 S. U.S. 68, will serve pizzas, fresh wings, salads and a rotating list of craft beers, new owner Amber Fraley-Weaver said.

The restaurant was known for about a decade as the Vintage Roadside Cafe, when her father Mike Fraley owned it. That restaurant focused on hamburgers and other sandwiches but closed more than a year ago.

• Guerra’s Krazy Taco opened in January 2016. All the tacos are soft tortillas with flavors of “Ole San Antonio.” Owner Felix Guerra III buys his products locally and grows his own herbs and peppers on the premises.

• The Barn pizza shop at 411 Upper Valley Pike closed after its most recent owner left, said Phil Morrow, who owns the building. Morrow, who ran the restaurant several years ago, said he wanted to find a new tenant.

Morrow said there’s no timeline for when the business will open again.

• Abbey’s Mediterranean Cuisine, 1236 Upper Valley Pike, also closed. The business opened in April 2015 and specialized in Middle Eastern dishes.

That site previously housed Mi Jalapeno, a Mexican restaurant that closed after several problems.
