Champaign County native returns to practice surgery in Springfield, Urbana

A physician from Champaign County will be returning to the area under the umbrella of Mercy Health Springfield.

Dr. Daniel Persinger, a general surgeon from Saint Paris, and his wife Christine have joined Mercy Health Physicians to practice medicine locally.

Persinger earned his medical degree at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton before practicing general and acute care surgery at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

While there, he also served as the Clinical Instructor of Surgery and as the Northeast Campus Medical Student Surgery Clerkship Director at the University of North Dakota.

Persinger will be practicing in both Springfield and Urbana. He will start seeing patients at both Mercy Health’s Springfield and Urbana General and Robotic Surgery on Feb. 3 and Feb. 6, respectively.

His wife, Dr. Christine Persinger, will also be practicing medicine in the area. She earned her medical degree in family medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. She most recently served as a family medicine physician and as the Medical Director of the United States Air Force, 319th Medical Operations Squadron in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

She will practice from Mercy Health - Northparke Internal and Family Medicine, 211 Northparke Drive, Springfield. She will start seeing patients on Jan. 13.
