The Champaign County Fair is still on for Aug.7-14 in Urbana.

Not only that, it could include most of the usual fair activities.

“The fair board is planning to have as much as normal as permitted, which include grandstand events,” Melinda Ryan of Ohio State Extension told the News-Sun via text message.

That comes as most of the fairs in the area are planning scaled-back versions because of Ohio Department of Health-imposed restrictions on large gatherings and uncertainty about how prevalent the spread of the coronavirus could be later in the summer.

“We are still working on details of schedules,” Ryan said. “As you know, things are constantly changing so we probably won’t announced a lot of details until at least July.

“Who knows? By August we may not have to change anything other than being respective of one another and keeping social distancing, wearing a mask if a person chooses, staying home if you are sick and using good hygiene.”

Clark, Madison, Montgomery, Butler and Warren counties are all planning to have junior fairs only while Greene County has yet to announce a decision.

The Clinton County Fair announced it will have “as much of a full fair as possible with modifications.” That includes no rides for its event scheduled for July 11-18 in Wilmington. Similarly, the Logan County Fair is planning to have a modified fair including limited grandstand entertainment in Bellefontaine the same week.

Representatives from Miami and Darke previously told the Dayton Daily News they are holding out hope for a full fairs in August.
