Kain Thompson was shot and killed in the 1800 block of Clay Street, according to a Springfield Police Division report.
When officers arrived, the child already was being treated in the back of a Springfield Fire Division medic unit.
“The victim was transported to (Springfield Regional Medical Center) where it was determined that he was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound,” the report said.

No one has been charged in the shooting. However, the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, the report said.
2. Springfield man cited for pointing laser at OSHP helicopter
Steven Sanders, 36, was charged Thursday in Clark County Municipal Court with interfering with operation of aircraft with laser. Sanders was not arrested and instead given a citation.
Sanders was cited on Saturday, April 11, after OSHP was dispatched to the 1000 block of Broadway Street on a report “an individual pointing a laser at the OSHP aircraft,” according to an affidavit filed in the case.

“Mr. Sanders stated that he was in his backyard grilling and was using the laser that he had bought on Wish.com to ‘track a raccoon,’” the affidavit said. “He then stated he was curious of the range and pointed the laser at the helicopter.”
The trooper allegedly asked Sanders what the range of the laser was and he stated “at least a football field,” the affidavit said.
“He stated that he did not intend to cause any problems and would not have pointed the laser in the direction of the aircraft if he would have known the consequences,” the affidavit said.
The laser was seized as evidence, the affidavit said.

3. Springfield police investigate burglaries at 2 businesses
Officers responded around 6 a.m. on Monday to TS Steel, 212 Monroe St., on a report of a burglary, according to a Springfield police report.
When police arrived, they spoke with an employee who said someone broke into the business around 10 p.m. on Easter Sunday.
“(The employee) stated he arrived for work and noticed the front sheet metal door had been pried open,” the report says.
The employee told officers he reviewed the camera footage, which caught the suspect breaking in.
“The suspect used a board to make and pry open a hole into the sheet metal door to be able to gain entry into the building,” the report says.
According to the report, the suspect stole a black tool bag, a Milwaukee toolbox and a cardboard box with miscellaneous tools in it.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s or 50s who was wearing a black jacket, gray hoodie and black pants, the report says.
Officers were later dispatched around 10 a.m. on Monday to a parking lot in the 1200 block of North Limestone Street in reference to a food truck being broken into, according to a second Springfield police report.
When police arrived, the owner of the food truck, New Orleans Grill, said the suspect(s) broke in sometime overnight.
“The owner stated that unknown suspect(s) broke the lock clasp that was screwed to the wall of the food truck,” the report says. “Suspect(s) gained entry into the food truck and took a jar with U.S. currency.”
The owner told officers this was the third time someone has broken into her food truck, the report says.
Springfield police continue their investigations into these incidents.
