RELATED: What parents are saying about Clark County Beggar’s Night date change
“We had a lot of our residents who were very unhappy with the change,” Donnelsville Mayor Marie Kettlehake said. “A lot of our people work until 6 p.m. or so, they couldn’t set up for trick-or-treat.
Another factor that influenced their decision was the location of Donnelsville.
“We were all so worried,” Kettlehake said. “We’re on Route 40 and the traffic at 6 p.m. when people are getting off of work is a lot worst than a Saturday at 6 p.m.”
Other Clark County communities that have changeed trick-or-treating back to Saturday, Oct. 26 are New Carlisle and Tremont City.
Enon discussed the date change at a city council meeting, but voted to keep trick-or-treat on Halloween.
“It came as a shock because it has been that way for a while now, it has always been on Saturday,” Kettlehake said. “So we just decided to please our residents and keep it where it was.”

The Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post on Aug. 30 that Beggar’s Night this year would be on Halloween, a change from it being held on the Saturday before Halloween.
In a Facebook post responding to criticism of the change, Sheriff Deb Burchett said trick-or-treating was ultimately moved in order to, “keep consistent with neighboring communities.”
“We understand that many people have historically planned their Halloween events following Beggar’s night being held during the weekend,” the Sheriff’s Office’s statement said. “We also have heard from just as many people thanking us and letting us know they appreciate the date being moved.”
