Air Force, union sign new labor agreement

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — The Air Force Materiel Command and a union for 35,000 employees across bases that the command oversees have signed a new labor agreement that is to take effect April 1.

The agreement between the AFMC and the American Federation of Government Employees Council 214 covers matters including employee performance, merit promotion, training, travel, annual and sick leave, health and safety, and child care, Air Force spokeswoman Michelle Martz said Wednesday. The negotiations did not involve pay and benefits.

Among the varied occupations covered under the agreement are aircraft mechanics and clerical, logistics, procurement, acquisition and information technology personnel.

The AFMC has a total of 63,700 civilian employees. It oversees bases across the country including Wright-Patterson, where it has its headquarters.

The labor agreement replaces one that expired in 2008. Both sides continued operating under terms of the old agreement until the new one becomes effective.
