2nd Greenon coach sues school district

SPRINGFIELD — A second Greenon Local Schools football coach is suing the district for unspecified damages, claiming defamation, civil conspiracy, breach of contract and fraud, according to a complaint filed Jan. 12.

Shawn Brickles, a teacher and assistant football coach, is suing the district after he was suspended for two days in late 2009 after what administrators called “inappropriate, unacceptable and unprofessional behavior,” according to Clark County Common Pleas Court documents.

The suspension reportedly stemmed from a verbal conflict that Brickles had with another district employee.

Brickles could not be reached and neither his lawyers nor administrators returned calls seeking comment.

Brickles is seeking damages in excess of $25,000, according to the complaint.

The January complaint is the second lawsuit leveled against the district by a teacher in less than a month.

On Dec. 21, former assistant football coach Tad Steinbrink filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages, claiming defamation and slander.

Steinbrink claims administrators improperly handled a probe into allegations against him and failed to follow district policies, according to court documents.

He and former head coach Tim Hale were dismissed from their positions in 2009 after being accused of harassing two players on the team.
